Learn to Meditate
Meditation is an umbrella term for the many ways to a relaxed state of being, higher awareness, and increased brain function. Long-time meditation practitioner Cecile Martin will guide you through meditation techniques that are most suited to your lifestyle. Receiving her initial meditation training more than 25 years ago through Ananda, an intentional spiritual community based in northern California, she also blends trainings from meditation teachers such as Jack Kornfield, Pema Chödrön, Sogyal Rinpoche, and others.
There is a growing body of neuroscientific research that states meditation not only changes our mind but also our brain. Neuroplasticity, the change of brain structures as a result of experience, is considered to be one of the most important discoveries of neuroscience over the last 10 years. Evidence has been growing that meditation practice can lead to significant changes of brain structures including increased cortical thickness, increased gray matter density, larger hippocampal and frontal volumes of gray matter, all which indicate a healthier, higher functioning brain.
